picture of Judy Mandolf, digital artist Judy Mandolf began her career in traditional fine art photography in the early 1980's, working mostly in handcolored black and white photography which have been exhibited throughout the US and Europe. Her image of Amish children toured Europe for two years as part of the Women Photographers in America exhibition and in 1994 her figurative studies were part of a cultural exchange with Hungary.

In 1996 she passionately embraced the digital medium. "I used to say that I photographed because I couldn't draw very well, but the creative spirit released in Photoshop and other imaging software has completely changed my whole approach and opened up unlimited opportunities for me to let my imagination fly." Her images have their genesis in her digital photographs which are collaged, "painted" and otherwise manipulated and printed on watercolor paper.

Judy's images have been featured in photography textbooks and the books "Going Digital" and "Secrets of Award Winning Photographers" as well as the magazines "Digital Fine Art," "macAddict," "Digital Camera," "e-Digital Camera," "D-P World" China, "Art of California" (Gold Medal Discovery Award in 1992), "American Photographer," "Photographer's Forum," and many others. Known mostly for her stilllife work, her images have been honored in competitions including the Seybold Digital Art Competition, Adobe Digital Imaging Competition, MacWorld Digital Art Competition and the Sony International Digital Art competition.

Work Statement: "Digital Art" often suggests hi-tech images with orbiting satellites and otherworld figures, but for me the lure is the ability to create more of a painterly feeling.

The user's manuals for my Macintosh and Adobe Photoshop were the introduction to a wonderful new world where visions weren't limited by film and darkroom. Ten years later I am still filled with excitement when creating a new vision.

My work is usually minimal, organized and serene. One of my favorite fan mails said that doctors should prescribe "Take two Mandolfs in the morning."
